Labor Support
As your doula during labor, I come alongside you and your partner as a familiar and knowledgeable companion. Unlike other labor and delivery staff, my job is to be there exclusively for you and your family. I am with you at all times and provide continuous labor support. I help facilitate labor the way that is instinctual, allowing labor to unfold naturally. I help support a woman so that she is able to be a more active participant in her birth. I do this by offering information and suggestions for a more active and natural labor. When a woman is cared for and nurtured during labor, recent studies have shown that a mother is less likely to be dissatisfied with her birth experience, has a decrease in the risk of cesarean section along with pitocin and pain medication, and has more positive feelings towards her new little one.
As your doula, I support your partner along with any other family who may be in attendance at your birth. Having a doula present allows your partner and family to be able to relax and enjoy the birth experience. I help fathers find their key role in your birth and help them to be involved as little or as much as they are comfortable with.
One of my favorite things, and probably because I worked in day spas for many years as a massage therapist, is ensuring that the atmosphere of where you are laboring is a calming and peaceful environment. I bring LED candles, an essential oil diffuser (if that is something you enjoy), and encourage you to make a playlist of music that you know will empower you and calm you. I bring many comfort measures in my doula bag. Things like mints, hot packs, honey sticks, mini fans, nausea pressure point bands. All of these items can be helpful in labor and delivery.
When mothers accomplish their goals, feel support and encouraged, and are able to have more understanding of the medical side of birth as a doula provides, the overall result of their birth experience, is a mother and father who feel great about the birth of their little one.
